Leda est une divorcée d’âge moyen qui se consacre à son travail de professeur d’anglais avec deux enfants. Lorsque ses filles quittent la maison pour rejoindre leur père au Canada, Leda prédit une période de solitude et de nostalgie. Au lieu de cela, un peu gêné et excité, il se sent exclu, comme si sa vie venait de devenir plus simple, plus facile. Il décide de prendre des vacances au bord de la mer, dans une petite ville côtière du sud de l’Italie. Mais après quelques jours de calme et de silence, les choses commencent à menacer. Léda rencontre une famille dont la présence de mépris est troublante, parfois même menaçante. Lorsqu’un petit incident apparemment insignifiant se produit, Leda est remplie de souvenirs des décisions difficiles et inhabituelles qu’elle a prises en tant que mère et de leur impact sur elle et sa famille. L’histoire apparemment calme de la délicieuse découverte d’une femme se transforme bientôt en l’histoire d’un conflit féroce et d’un passé ruiné.
